It is a small quaint town in the county of Wilson, North Carolina. The town of Elm City was once mentioned on an episode of “The Andy Griffith Show”, which just so happens to be one of my favorite shows of all time. Towards the end of the episode a man pulls up in a red convertible with the top down and asks if there is a hotel in the charming town. Then Andy says welcome to Mayberry and the man responds with Mayberry? I thought we were in Elm City. So, if you have ever watched The Andy Griffith Show and saw this episode. Yes! It is an actual town in the state of North Carolina. I believe it is season one episode 25 or 26.
A few outstanding athletes are also from this town, Jamie Watson former NBA player and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill college basketball alumnus John Virgil.
Things To See
Go downtown and look at the historical buildings that are still in pretty decent shape.

Next, visit the old train depot which was actually remolded and relocated a few years ago. The train depot is currently in use for many community activities. Even though the train depot does not function as a train stop, several trains still run through the town all day and night.

A couple of hundred feet you begin to see signs about a fitness trail. The fitness trail takes you around the small city and it also consists of different training stations.

There are an array of beautiful historical houses along the fitness trail.

Don’t forget to stop by the Elm City park with your family and friends. There is a play area for the children, shelter and a grill.
