Fort Macon State Park View From Above
This past weekend my mom, Charlie and I had the great opportunity of visiting one of the best state parks in North Carolina! The state park that we visited is an actual fort located strategically on Bogue Banks near the Atlantic Beach! Fort Macon first opened it’s doors officially as a state park in 1936 and is the second most visited state park in North Carolina! People love this fort so much that annually, roughly 1.5 million people visit this beautiful yet historical landmark.
The Battle of Fort Macon occurred between March and April in the year of 1862. It has a plethora of bricks, which consists of more bricks than any other United States fort. Wow, that is mind blowing right!
Not only do you have access to the fort but also the beach, nature trails, a swimming area, a bathhouse, ranger guided tours and a refreshment stand! Since we visited the state park in October, which so happens to be a non-summer month; the swimming area, bathhouse and refreshment stand were not accessible. However, the park is open-year round so don’t fret. Additionally, right before you get to Fort Macon there is a United States Coast Guard station which is an awesome add-on bonus for your visit.
Not only is the fort mind blowing but also the view of the beach! We strolled the beach and also went on a few nature trails. The overlook had a stunning view, and it made us feel like we were right in a scene from a movie. This is a must see gem, so don’t wait any longer to see it!
