Being a native of North Carolina, I have always heard so much about Daniel Boone. However, I never realized there was an actual cave where him and his family once lived is still in existence. I must say that I was beyond excited when I learned of this cave! So, I decided to dedicate a few hours of my day to visit this historical North Carolina site. It is January so the current park hours are from 9am-5pm eastern standard time.

A Little Bit Of History About Daniel Boone’s Cave
It is said that in 1750, Squire Boone left the state of Pennsylvania with his family to settle along the Yadkin Valley of western North Carolina. Undoubtedly, the Boone family had heard of the spacious and fertile land the Yadkin Valley had to offer. Which is what essentially attracted the Boone family as well other first time settlers. The most famous member of the family, is of course Daniel Boone, hence the park is named after him. According to local legend, the Boone family spent their first year in North Carolina at the Boone’s Cave Park. Using the cave, that is located just above the Yadkin Valley River for several purposes.
My Experience Of The Park
As soon as I turn down a long wooded road, I immediately know that I am going to enjoy the park. I’m an outdoorsy individual, so I am always elated when it comes to outdoor activities. Additionally, I get to hike around the park for some cardio and life long experiences. Did I forget to mention that I am also a history major!
After the wooded road, I pull up to a stone landmark that is engraved with the name Boone. Next, I see this walking trail leading down several flights of stairs to get near the river. I continue to walk the trail and I see the cave! I simply cannot believe it is the famous Daniel Boone cave.

The cave itself from the outside looks absolutely fascinating but scary and dark all at the same time. Despite knowing that I am going to see a cave, I totally forget that I didn’t bring a flashlight to say the least. So, its dark and I cannot see a thing! It’s dark and I have no earthly idea what may or may not be living in the cave! After about two minutes of exploring the cave blindly. I make a quick exit. I’m excited, scared and ready to see more of the park.
Nearby, I see the Yadkin Valley River water come hurling down just beyond the cave. I get closer and dip my hands in the river to see how warm or cold the water may be. I imagined what kinds of things the Boone family could have utilized the cave and water for. I walked a few trails and had a little picnic all to myself.

Highlights Of Boone’s Cave Park
There is a bike trail with very secluded views. Wonderful hiking/walking trails, fishing, picnic area, disc golf and restrooms on 100 acres of land. Additionally, there are options of renting out the shelters as well as the primitive campsite and bringing your own canoes/kayaks to explore the river. Furthermore, there is a lot of nature and wildlife to see so make sure to bring your binoculars.
