Eating Slowly Is A Great Habit To Maintain

By Beth Foster

A long time ago even before I knew about the real importance of nutrition and maintaining a healthy diet. I understood and realized that when I ate slower. I did not consume as much food even if I felt extremely hungry. Did you know that it can take up to twenty minutes for your brain to get the signal that your stomach is full? I’ve seen so many people eat so fast that they begin to start having the hiccups. Additionally, they are eating their food in like five to six minutes! Don’t get me wrong in Marine Corps bootcamp, I had my fair share of speedy eating!

I’m no longer in bootcamp and I have also gotten older. Twenty minutes is a long time for you to consume a whole bunch of food that you don’t essentially need . Your stomach is definitely full by twenty minutes if you are eating rapidly whether you realize it or not. You may be thinking what things can I do to eat slower? Put your fork down in between bites as well as drinking water in between the bites as well.

Remember that you are supposed to be enjoying your food! Let your taste pallet be your guide to enjoying your food and maintaining your weight. Most times it takes me at least forty minutes to eat a full course meal. Furthermore, eating fast will negatively affect your digestion and you won’t be able to throughly be satisfied after eating your meal.

So, the next time you sit down for a meal remember to be mindful of not only what you are eating but also how fast you are eating it.

Staty fit!
