My First 43rd Annual Run For The Roses 5K Race Was A Blast

By Beth Foster

Before The Run

Just yesterday, I ran my first 5k race of 2024 and I had a blast! The North Carolina Roadrunners Club, a non-profit running organization hosted its 43rd annual Run for the Roses 5k! The organization donates a portion of the race proceeds to a few charities of their choice every year, which I think is such a great gesture for the community. Additionally, every female participant that finishes the race receives a rose after crossing the finish line. Also, every runner receives a very colorful shirt for participating in the race.

It has been a little over a year since I’ve ran a 5k, so I have to admit I am a tad bit rusty. Despite feeling rusty, I know that I gave it my best effort and finished the race! Everyone out there was supportive of one another and the volunteers were awesome as well! I recommend this race for anyone interested for the next year. It is family oriented and it also serves for a greater purpose than just running. It is important to stay active no matter how old you are! These types of races aren’t just for runners it is for walkers as well and all in all it is meant to be fun and bring the community closer together. I hope to participate next year and hopefully meet more great people. Until next time Stay Fit!
