Old Town Alexandria, Virginia & A Snippet Of The Waterfront

By, Beth Foster

Rainbow Mural

On the 4th of July, I thought it would be nice to visit Old Town Alexandria, Virginia and the waterfront. Surprisingly, it was not extremely hot per usual, for this holiday, in the South-Eastern region of the United States. I am looking at this picture above and I still can’t believe I had on all that black lol. A college buddy of mine also decided she would accommodate me on this holiday, so that was an added bonus.

We decided that we wanted to take some pictures of some murals and also with us in them! I have to say that it was quite a blast! The first one was the Old Town Alexandria Mural, also known as the Rainbow Mural, which is quite colorful!

After the Old Town Alexandria Mural, we made our way to the Come Together Mural. This mural was created by two local high school students take on Michelango’s “Creation of Adam”, which I had the opportunity to see, when I visited Rome, Italy. It was sort of hard to get a good picture of this mural, because a really big tree was blocking a good portion of the view.

Next, we visited The Hollensbury Spite House, which is often called the skinniest house in America! The Spite House is located at 523 Queen Street Alexandria, Virginia. This house has drawn attention internationally and was once featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show. I as well as others come and visit this house to pose in front of it. Reportedly, original owner, John Hollensbury, built the house in 1830 to prevent people from loitering in the alley adjoining his house to keep wagon-wheel hubs from damaging the exterior walls of the home. It is one of the four spite houses in Alexandria, Virginia.

Of course, after all the posing, we decided to walk to the waterfront for a bite to eat at Blackwall Hitch, located on 5 Cameron Street.

After eating all that food, we walked further down the waterfront to walk off some calories. There was this park, right along the waterfront, that had some beautiful views of nature.

Lastly, we went to some type of outdoor historical building in Arlington, which is about a 15-minute drive from Alexandria’s waterfront. I cannot think of the name of the building for the life of me right now and I truly apologize, but hopefully you will enjoy this picture of it!

That is all folks! So, until next time, stay fit and God bless!
