Bath North Carolina, Everyone’s Favorite Small Town

January 30, 2023 By Beth Foster

Bath, North Carolina is certainly a most exciting sight to see for all. Southern Living has even mentioned that Bath is one of their favorite small towns in the state of North Carolina. Bath is very unique because it is not only North Carolina’s first town but also its first port. It is also said that the famous pirate “Blackbeard” once lived in Bath.

What To Do

Check out the Bath Creek Park. The park has fantastic views of the water and the town. If you are the outdoor type bring your own kayak or canoe and enjoy the water.

There are several must see historical sites such as the Palmer Marsh House, the Bonner House, the Van Der Veer House and the Saint Thomas Church.

Don’t forget to stop by Pirates Treasure Gift Shop to pick up some cool souvenirs.

Where To Eat

OLD Town County Kitchen also known as The Grill has good home cooked food at affordable prices. If you want to grab a Burger and a Margarita go to Blackbeard’s Tavern. They also have a very nice seating area outside to enjoy your food and drinks.

Where To Stay

The Bath Harbor Motel & Marina is perfect if you would like to enjoy the marina right at your fingertips. However, if you want the downtown home feel, stay at The Inn On Bath Creek Bed and Breakfast.

Don’t forget to have a seat on Bonner’s Point to view the sunsetting or rising! Or just to simply enjoy the beautiful view of the water, nature and the historic houses.

I am a car person so I drove. If you are a North Carolina native that lives in the eastern region. You can get here very easily by car. However you get here whether it be by train, plane, bus, car or plane. It is worth coming!

You can watch a short YouTube clip I have made to see some pictures of Bath below:

  1. This was an interesting read! I didn’t know anything about the first town in NC. That’s about two hours from where I am in North Carolina. I look forward to checking it out one day. I did read it has a pretty small population. Now I’m going to search more about it lol.

  3. Thanks for visiting our wonderful town. Don’t forget about us at The Pirate’s Wharf – the only waterfront rental on Historic Main Street. Originally built in 1890, our 2BR Airbnb accommodations are in the home that once served as the first doctors office and hospital/surgical suite in town, along with home to Bath’s original bed and breakfast. Check us out next time at http://www.ThePiratesWharf.com! Thanks for coming. Arrgh.
